ERHS Calendar - Week of 9/9/19

Dear ERHS Community,

Welcome and welcome back to all the new and returning members of the ERHS community. This past week, we opened the school for its 18th year, with the arrival of the Class of 2023, several new members of other classes and new faculty/staff joining our school community. I hope the first couple of days of school allowed you to get acclimated/re-acclimated with the school. As I shared in the grade level assemblies, it is up to every one of us to bring positive energy into the space and to work diligently to reach our own potential while providing a safe space for all to learn and grow.

We started the year last Tuesday with two days of professional learning for the faculty/staff.  As promised, we worked with a facilitator (Lauren Neidhardt) from Morningside Center for Social Responsibility to strengthen our own bonds as a faculty, participating in two days of circle discussion training, emerging more prepared to lead and co-facilitate advisory classes with new ElRo Sibs. Advisory classes began with some circle activities during the first two days of the school year and all grades discussed The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

This year we will be sharing what students will be covering with students in advisory in the weekly calendar so that families are more aware of what is occurring in the weekly advisory class. All are reminded that to accommodate the school-wide advisory class happening concurrently, we will have a special weekly Wednesday schedule that will add 30 minutes to the school day. All students will be dismissed about half hour later than normal, with period 9 ending at 3:36pm, to allow for the school to have this opportunity to focus on advisory at the same time.

This week all grades in advisory will focus on Class Agreements, which will set the stage for the entire year of advisory. We hope all students are ready to share, learn and contribute to healthy discussion and supporting one another in this important setting.

This Monday, 9/9, we will also have our Special Monday schedule as the first of two faculty meetings a month will take place and all students will be dismissed by 2:20pm. These special Mondays will take place on the first and third Monday of the month.

Thank you to everyone who submitted all the forms, blue cards, permission slips (9th grade), etc. that was sent out in the summer mailing. If you did not receive the mailing, please contact our Parent Coordinator, Ms. Zanaiya Moore at If you have not returned the forms, please do asap! It is imperative that we have your accurate contact information and contact Ms. Madeline Santiago, our new Pupil Accounting Secretary with anything related to student attendance at

Hoping everyone is off to a good start.

Dear ERHS Families,

I hope that this message finds you all in great spirits. Congratulations and welcome to the incoming families and students. My name is Zanaiya Moore and I am the Parent Coordinator here at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. As we enter the 2019-2020 school year I want to formally introduce myself to the new families, and to the families that I had the opportunity to engage with during the 2018-2019 school year.

I am delighted to continue serving the Eleanor Roosevelt High School community for another year.  During the 2019-2020 school year, I look forward to continuing to engage with families, engage with students, and to continue to support our community.

My goal this year is to assure that all parents expectations for the Eleanor Roosevelt High School community are met and that families understand that I am here to be helpful, resourceful and fully invested in your child's education. During this school year Parent Engagement workshops will be held. For an example Pflag is an organization that unites families of the LGBTQ community. PFlag will help bring awareness to families about the LGBTQ community. I also look forward to continuing our relationship with Jodie Smith an advocate of the LGBTQ community.

Our school will hold workshops that support Parent and Teacher communication. There are many other workshops and activities that will be held throughout the year. I would love to hear your thoughts, and ideas on how we can bring more activities, events and family engagement into our school. However, just wanted to give you all a small update on the 2019-2020 school.

Again, I look forward to meeting you all and I am always available to chat via email at and phone, please do not hesitate to reach out during the school year.

Thank you,

Ms. Moore
